Sunderland Close in On O'Shea

Manchester United defender John O'Shea is due at Sunderland on Thursday for a medical as Black Cats manager Steve Bruce closes in on yet another summer signing.

O'Shea's United team-mate Wes Brown had a medical on Wearside on Wednesday night and if Bruce completes both deals it will take his transfer total to eight.
United's Darron Gibson is also still on the radar and Sunderland have high hopes of completing a triple swoop on Old Trafford. Bruce targeted the trio several weeks ago and had a joint bid of more than £12 million accepted
Gibson was quick to indicate his willingness to consider a move to the Stadium of Light, but that deal has proved to be the most problematic. However, first Brown, 31, and now O'Shea, 30, have edged ever closer to accepting Sunderland's offer to add experience and know-how to a defence which was badly affected by injuries last season.
Bruce is keen to revamp his squad, having lost Darren Bent in January and Jordan Henderson this summer.
With Connor WickhamCraig Gardner, Ji Dong-won, Keiren Westwood, Sebastian Larsson and winger Ahmed Elmohamady already on board, Bruce seems close to concluding his transfer dealings.
