Rooney Looks to Next Season

Manchester United star Wayne Rooney believes it is time to look forward to next season, rather than back at the club's Champions League misery.

Rooney played the first 45 minutes of United's 4-1 win over MLS side New England Revolution in their first United States pre-season tour game. However, many are already looking to the July 30 match-up between United and Barcelona in rematch of last season's European decider.
"You have to draw a line under what happened at Wembley," said Rooney. "You have to look forward, not back. We need to look at the trophies we will be competing for and hopefully by the end of next season, we will have some silverware."
Michael Owen and Federico Macheda both scored against New England, while England winger Ashley Young made his debut for the club in the clash. Rooney says the competition for places up front may push United toward a 20th Premier League title.
"Competition is good," he said. "It keeps everyone on their toes. It is exciting to have so many strikers. It means everyone will have to be on top of their game to keep their place in the team."
"Ashley has settled in well. Everyone knows what Ashley is capable of. He put some excellent crosses in tonight and we are looking forward to playing a few more games with him.
"We have an exciting young team now. Hopefully we can bring more success to the club."
Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Antonio Valencia has returned back to England to receive treatment on a nasty ankle injury sustained in Ecuador's opening Copa America match.
