Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists he will not be pressured into making big-name signings for the sake of it, and claims he is unlikely to sign Wesley Sneijder this summer.
Despite Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk's claims that Sneijder would fit perfectly into the United midfield, Ferguson has once more distanced himself from claims the Inter Milan playmaker is close to a move to Old Trafford.
Ferguson admits his midfield needs boosting following the retirement of Paul Scholes, but he is adamant he will only dip into the transfer market if the right player becomes available.
"Forget it," Ferguson said of a possible move for Sneijder. "We are looking at some things but I am not so sure Sneijder will be easy to get. I could pick three or four players to come in but they wouldn't be good enough for us, so there is no point."
Having brought in Aston Villa winger Ashley Young, defender Phil Jones and keeper David De Gea, Ferguson insists he is happy with his new signings and would be happy to defend the Premier League title with his current squad of players.
"I would be happy enough," he added. "Maybe I am a bit overloaded in the strikers' positions. The alternatives in midfield are not nearly as strong. But I have a good squad."
