United Close in on Keeper Rui

Manchester United chiefs will fly to Lisbon today to negotiate a deal for Sporting keeper Rui Patricio. But the Portuguese club believe they are being used as a tool by United in their bid to land main target David de Gea from Atletico Madrid. The Old Trafford giants are adamant that is not the case and have so far knocked down stories of an £18million offer for De Gea being accepted by Atletico. They have already bid £7m for Patricio, which has been rejected by Sporting, who want £12m.

Now they will meet Sporting officials face to face in the Portuguese capital and try to reach a compromise. Patricio, 23, is more experienced than De Gea, 20, as a Portuguese international who has made 167 first-team appearances for his club. That is more than twice as many as De Gea. But 6ft 3in Spanish giant De Gea is considered one of the world's best. The Sun also claim United's players will share a £9million bonus if both the Premier League and Champions League trophies are secured later this month.

Gareth Bale is a top target for United and City in the summer, according to the Daily Star. Tottenham's Welsh wizard was named the PFA Player of the Year and certainly wouldn't come cheaply with talk of a £30million plus James Milner offer from Roberto Mancini's Blues. Meanwhile, another Welshman, Ryan Giggs, has his say in the Daily Expressahead of the Chelsea clash on Sunday. The midfield veteran insists United want all three points rather than settling for a draw, explaining: "We have to go out and attack like Manchester United do at Old Trafford. The crowd wouldn’t have it any other way."
