Rooney Raised United


Manchester United beat Southampton 2-1 to strengthen its position in the Premier League early yesterday morning.

Alex Ferguson's coaching team have seven points advantage after collecting 59 points from 24 matches against closest rivals, Manchester City (52 points) and Chelsea (46 points).

In action at Old Trafford, the visitors scored first through Jay Rodriguez as early as the third minute but striker sensation England, Wayne Rooney confirmed victory United when detonated two goals in the eighth and 27th minutes.

"Based on my experience in this club (United), there are a few matches in our favor especially when we are competing to win a championship," said Ferguson.

"This is the game."

Rooney re-discovered the greatness overshadowed touch after Robin van Persie this season and now, he has hit nine goals in nine games.

Meanwhile, Southampton manager, Mauricio Pochettino feel proud after Ferguson considers their performances are among the best at Old Trafford this season.

"It's important for the players I hear (praise), but we came back without collecting any points. We played well but we were disappointed when he failed to bind United a draw. It does not please me," he said.

In the meantime, Ferguson is demanding three main strikers team to score 20 goals this season, thus realizing the dream of the club to win the treble.

In addition to the Premier League title, United still have a chance to lift the FA Cup trophy and the Champions League.

Reds will meet Reading in the fifth round of the FA Cup action and against Real Madrid in the group of 16 teams next month.

So far, Rooney has 12 goals overall detonated while van Persie and Javier Hernandez clog respectively 22 and 14 goals.

Ferguson believes that if Rooney and Hernandez was able to follow the footsteps of van Persie to score more than 20 goals, it will be key to the success of United this season.
