Modric: I Need to Leave Tottenham

Luka Modric has indicated he wants to leave Tottenham Hotspur this summer in search of Champions League football, with widespread reports in England and Spain suggesting the player's agent, Mario Mamic, has met with Real Madrid.

Modric is linked with a move away from White Hart Lane as the likes of Real, Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain chase his signature. Stories in the English press on Wednesday evening also claiming the playmaker is set to hand in a transfer request, with Spurs requesting a £40 million transfer fee.

Talk of an imminent exit has developed since Spurs missed out on the Champions League due to Chelsea winning last season's competition. Still on holiday following Croatia's Euro 2012 exit, Modric is understood to have told Spurs he wants to move on.

Chelsea spent the whole of last summer chasing Modric but Spurs refused to allow him to leave.

Modric is quoted as saying in Spanish newspaper Marca: "I'm going to play in the Champions League, I want to win that competition. I'm not going to be able to achieve my dream here."

Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly poised to snare Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in a move which could pave the way for Modric to depart.
